The following documents are generally required to apply for an F-1 Visa:

• A valid passport with at least 6 months of validity.

• Form DS-160 for non-immigrant visa applications.

• Two photographs meeting the US Visa Photo Requirements.

• Proof of F-1 visa fee payment.

• Form I-20. The Form I-20 states the amount of funds that a student needs to finance the education and live in the US for one academic year. The student must submit documents that prove that the required funding for study is readily available. This can be done by submitting various documents, such as:

• Proof of scholarship/ funding (if the student has already received the commitement of funding from the university).

• Acceptance letters of the student from the educational institution.

• Bank statements/ Bank Affidavit.

• If the student is supported or sponsored by someone living in the US, the student will have to submit form I-134, Affidavit of Support, and bank statements for the last three years of the sponsor.

• If the student is funding his/her US education through a loan, s/he must also show a proof of the approved loan.

• Documents that prove the educational qualifications.
